Sustainable Futures North (SFN) is a three-year, NSF-funded project based on developing a better understanding of the interactions among food, water, energy security, and natural resource development in Arctic and Subarctic rural communities.
SFN is comprised of researchers and professionals in Canada and the United States who have experience in fields from documentary filmmaking to engineering in northern regions and will be learning from rural residents in Bristol Bay, Kotzebue Sound, Baffin Island, and Nunavut about their specific education and human resource needs.
SFN is hosting the 2016 Summer Institute to as a way to share what has been learned during the project, to raise awareness about comparative rural policy issues in the North, and to further increase collaboration between people working in the North and other parts of the world.
